Concrete Selections
Visualising the completed look can be a challenge, but that’s what we’re here for. We work with you to find the best finish for your property, either choosing from the list below or finding a bespoke solution.
Textured with chip or pebble aggregate
An exposed aggregate finish occurs when the top layer of concrete is removed, revealing the ‘aggregate’ – typically rounded or crushed pebble mixes. The result is a textured surface that’s attractive for pavement areas, driveways or any other outdoor area where concrete is on show. Another advantage is that the aggregate creates a non-slip surface, making it a safe choice for paths. In homes, this finish can be ground down to achieve a smooth surface, but with the exposed aggregate appearance.
Smooth texture with either hard or soft finishing
Steel trowels produce a smooth, attractive finish perfectly suited for indoor and outdoor applications. This finish is often selected for pool surrounds, paths, driveways, entertaining areas or anywhere that requires a modern, clean aesthetic.
Brush to achieve textured finish
Broom finished concrete, also known as brushed concrete, involves using a broom to create a textured surface. This creates a slip-resistant surface, making it perfect for most outdoor areas.
Coloured concrete dyed with pigments
Pigmented finishes are often referred to as ‘coloured concrete’. It’s created by combining colour pigments to the cement mix to create a colourful, decorative concrete finish. This makes it the perfect choice for when the design of an outdoor area or house interior requires a specific concrete colour.
Cleans concrete floors and deepens colour
Acid washing concrete thoroughly cleans concrete, removing stains that accumulate in the often-harsh NZ conditions. The cleaned concrete will have a less slippery surface and typically a deepened colour. It also enhances the existing finish, adding texture. Acid washing is also a requirement before sealing.
Stamped with pattern to achieve a specific design
Stamping concrete allows owners to choose a specific finish that suits their home or business. It involves stamping freshly poured concrete to achieve a pattern or texture that can resemble brick, stone, tile, wood or any other custom finish.
Cut to achieve patterns or shapes
Decoratively saw cutting concrete allows homeowners to give their plain concrete a more creative finish. The process involves cutting patterns or shapes into the concrete with a diamond saw blade. These cuts are often made in a standard square pattern to replicate a paver-style finish, but this method can also be utilised to create custom shapes.
Maintains finish and improves cares
Sealing concrete involves applying a film to the surface of the concrete to protect the finish. Sealed concrete is easier to maintain over time as it prevents moisture and stains from penetrating the concrete’s surface. A matte or gloss finish can be selected for the seal, and it can also be tinted to create a coloured finish.
Concrete surface is rolled to achieve textured finish
Freshly laid concrete is rolled with a textured roller, giving a subtle, textured finish. This creates a modern look for paths, driveways, or any outdoor entertainment areas.
